- Acacia
Acacia is a tropical shrub native to Africa, Tasmania, and Australia. This spiny stalk produces feathery leaves and clusters of fragrant yellow flowers, with the oblong fruit appearing from late winter to early spring.
- Agrimony
Agrimony is a scented perennial plant native to Europe. It is also found in dry thickets and waste lands throughout the world. This perennial grows to 24 inches, producing rough textured leaflets and slender spikes of yellow flowers that bloom from June through September.
- Alfalfa
Alfalfa is a perennial plant found in fields and valleys through out the world. It is also widely cultivated. Alfalfa grows 12 - 18 inches tall and it is a deep feeder. There have been reports of the roots reaching depths of 6 to 8 feet underground
- Allspice
Allspice is native to Jamaica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Brazil and the Leeward Islands. In the summer, these shiny-leafed evergreen trees are covered with berries that when dried resemble oversized, smooth peppercorns. Allspice is the dried berry.
- Almond
Almonds are native to California, the Mediterranean, and Southern Europe. The tree grows 10 - 20 feet tall, and produces large soft rose to white flowers, that usually appear in pairs, and bloom from May through June. The fruit appears in August.
- Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a perennial plant native to Africa, the West Indies, and other tropical areas. Aloe Vera is also widely cultivated and makes an excellent house plant.
- Angelica
Angelica is an aromatic biennial native to Northern Europe and Asia. It is found in mountain ravines, on riverbanks, in the wetlands, and along coastal regions. It is also widely cultivated.
- Anise
Anise is an annual plant that is widely cultivated. It grows up to 2 feet, producing clusters of fragrant white flowers. The small, downy, brown fruit grows to about one eighth of an inch, ripening in late August through early September.
- Apple
The Apple Tree will grow up to 40 feet tall. Dwarf versions grow from 6 - 12 feet, but still produce full size fruit. The fruit usually ripens in the fall, but it depends on the apple species.
