Duir, Jove’s Nuts, White Oak.

Description

Oak is a hardy tree, native to Canada, the United States, and Mexico.   It grows anywhere from 50 - 150 feet tall, with up to a 9 foot diameter, producing large leaves that appear to have fingers.   Oak is a majestic tree grown mainly for its beautiful foliage and huge spreading limbs.

Uses/Applications

The Oak bark is an effective astringent for diarrhea, dysentery, and hemorrhoids.   It is also used for gingivitis, mouth ulcers, varicose veins, skin irritations, and to reduce fever.

 

Douche

Use for vaginal discharge.

 

Enema

Use for hemorrhoids.

 

Mouthwash

Use for tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and laryngitis.

Combinations

Combine with Gingu before meals. 

For fever combine with Chamomile.

Constituents

Up to 20% Tannins, Galic Acid, Ellagi Tannins.

Action

Astringent, Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Septic.

Bark

Collection

Pare the bark from young branches that are not more than 4 inches thick.

Preparation

Decoction

Place 1 Tsp. bark in a cup of water.   Bring to boil.   Simmer 15 minutes.   Take three times per day.

 

Douche

Steep 1 heaping Tbsp. in   1 1/2 liters of water for 30 minutes.   Strain and use.

 

Enema

Steep 1 heaping Tbsp. in   1 1/2 liters of water for 30 minutes.   Strain and use.

 

Tincture

Take 1 - 2 ml. three times per day.

Check with your local nursery for growing information for your area.   Oak is very slow growing.

History

The Greeks held the Oak sacred.   The Romans dedicated it to Jupiter, and the Druids respected it.   In England the name Gospel Oak is still used relating to the time when Psalms and Gospel truths were uttered beneath the Oak’s shade.

1.   Oak is a good substitute for Quinine in intermittent fever.
